No, you cannot install IE6 on Vista. -- Tom Porterfield

Is there a document explaining the reasoning behind this? I use OWA, but it is not supported in ie7

Try using this to change the agent string to IE6 http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspx

IE in Windows is considered a core part of the OS. You cannot deprecate part of the core components of an OS.
BTW, what version of OWA? I am able to use OWA with IE7 without problem. You may also want to try installing Firefox or Opera. -- Tom Porterfield

The answer is probably no, but this is a Beta test.
Start by trying to uninstall IE7. If you can do that you can at least get past the "A more recent version has been detected" message.
Even if you can uninstall IE7, there is no guarantee that you can install Internet Explorer 6.1 or if you can install it that it will run.
I'm not sure how to run software in the compatibility mode, or even if a core component like Internet Explorer can be run in compatibility mode.

IE is too integrated into the OS for this to work.

IE6 is not going to be the answer, however the bottom line is, is it possible to get OWA to work with IE7? I have the same problem, and have searched high and low for a solution. Any ideas for a fix?

One would figure eventually those programs will be written to work with IE7. However, can you access those programs with Firefox or any other browser? This is part of the reason Vista has been put out for public beta, to figure out what is/isn't compatible.

For sure. In fact Microsoft Update, the MS technical chatrooms, and MS Live Meeting wouldn't work with the first Beta 1 release of IE7 (the fix for that was an IE6 agent string).
Anyone who is having problems is doing a great job beta testing as long as he files the bug reports.

I do not understand why anyone would want to put a piece of junk like IE6 on their Windows Vista Computer. It is like they are telling the world, "Please give me a virus", "Can I have another helping of spyware", and " Would some please exploit my vulnerabilities".
Firefox or Opera would be a much better solution.

For my education, what about OWA doesn't work with IE7? Is it a specific version that doesn't work? Both my wife and I use OWA to access e-mail remotely. She uses an older version than I do. Both work fine in IE7. -- Tom Porterfield

When I try to log in the blue divider bar loads and then the page just hangs. Nothing else will load at all. I have tried everything from trusted sites to privacy settings and cant seem to get it to work.

Thanks, sounds like you are accessing a server with a newer version of OWA than I am. Have you tried the suggestion of Scott Lovegrove to use Fiddler to modify your agent string so that it reports IE6? His post:

Yes, I tried it with no luck.
